- Platelets excrete growth factors also called “Cytokines” & are proteins
- They are stored in the Alpha-Granules in platelets
- In response to platelet to platelet aggregation or platelet to connective tissue contact, or fibrin thread formation, as occurs in injury or surgery, the cell membrane of platelet is “activated” to release growth factors from alpha-granules
